I did a fun little Valentine’s project over the weekend for Eliza Jane and her sweet friend, Brynn. I found this cute DIY Valentine’s shirt pin on Pinterest and thought, I could do that…
So I did.
I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a shirt for Eliza Jane and a little dress for Brynn {of course they didn’t have two of the same thing in both kids’ sizes…}, along with the pink felt that I needed.
I have a LOT of red felt left over from Eliza Jane’s Halloween costume from last year…so no need to purchase any additional!
I studied the photo I saved on my phone.
I searched through the house to find a heart template, finally finding one in my February issue of Real Simple?! How do I have nothing heart-shaped in my house?! Anyway, so I cut out this cute little heart.
I laid it out on the shirt and the dress to see how many actual felt hearts I might need…
And I started tracing them with a “permanent” marker. I say “permanent” because these are cheap and do not last permanently… 😉
I calculated that I needed five hearts for each neckline – three of one color and two of the other and that I would use the third heart at the bottom of the shirt/dress {you’ll see}.
I cut out my hearts and plotted them in their spots, securing them with a pin.
I debated using my sewing machine, but being that these were going to be such short stitches, I decided to go with hand-stitching. Hence, they are extremely far from perfect!!!
I also debated on using alternating colored thread, or even gold thread but then I didn’t want to get too crazy and if my thread line ended up looking wonky, I didn’t want it to look sloppy.
Can you tell I am my worst critic? Bless my heart.
Y’all, these turned out so darling!!!
I sent Dana the picture of Brynn’s little dress Saturday with the caption: “I can’t even….” lovey eyes emoji and the two little girls holding hands.
I may be my worst critic, but dang, I think these are just the sweetest little things!! I can’t wait to see our sweet girls in these!

These are so cute and don’t seem too hard to make! I’m definitely sending this to my sister in law that has kids- she’ll love it!
Hi Annie! Thanks for your comment and for sharing. They were so easy to make, I think it only took me about an hour from start to finish, to do both! 🙂
Those dresses are absolutely darling! Great crafting!
