April So Far…But Nearly Gone.

April 28, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Being a Mom, Life 2 Comments

Confession: I started this post exactly two weeks ago.  This is how crazy our lives have been this month…no time for anything “extra” like blogging.  Sorry friends.  Really I am.  This month has been totally exhausting!  Andrew had a birthday, Reynolds had a birthday and then whatever happened in between…I don’t even know.  But here’s the post that I started two weeks ago and a bunch of stuff that has been added in tonight to update y’all on this wild month we’ve had!April so far

……………………………………………………..

Y’all I don’t even know how we’re almost in the middle of April, 2016, but we are.  I don’t know about you, but this has been a really busy month so far for the Lucas clan.  So far this month…

Reading – I’ve started a new study via SRT: The Life of Moses and though it took me a day or two to get it downloaded, I’m up and running!

Playing – We’ve been playing a lot outside recently with this fantastic weather we’re having in SC!  Weekends and evenings mean running around outside playing with R’s grill, his bicycle, swinging on that swing Andrew put up for us last year and even playing in the yard.  Andrew even planted two grape vines this past weekend!

Watching – a lot of Disney.  Sophia the First is on this exact moment…

Showing -Eliza Jane has been showing off her mad skills of taking off her clothes.  Like, in the middle of the night?!  She’s been waking up with on leg out of her pants and her shirt inside out, and upside down, AND around her waist.  As in, no arms in anything.  What happens when we leave her at night?!

Cooking – Oh, so the other night I made these oh-so-delicious Parmesan Sage Pork Chops:  I had pork chops and googled a recipe, found this, got the ingredients and voila!  Best pork chops ever.  Ever, I tell you.

Eating – So I just ate a small bowl of cinnamon toast crunch. 🙂

Drinking – Water.  Lots of water.  It is hot down here in SC.

Calling – Ann and I are playing phone tag…sorry, Ann.

Texting – Today I got a text from my mom: “Can I email from my Kindle to the computer?” →”I have no idea.  I don’t have a Kindle….” was my reply.  Though I assume one could…I just don’t know about these things.  I think she called someone in “support” for help.

Tweeting – Nothing special.

Pinning – Flowers.  There’s an event this weekend for new and expectant moms called Bloom that the City Mom Blog Group {of which I am a part} is putting on, and I was asked to do the flower arrangements?!  So the last few weeks I’ve pinned a lot of flower arrangements for ideas.  Tomorrow night is go-time for making FIFTEEEEEEEN flower arrangements.  Thanks to Breanna and Dana who are coming to drink wine and arrange pretty flowers. 🙂  Should be a good time.  No doubt, pics will show up on my instafeed.

Going – To bed?  Does that count?  After this post, I’m closing my eyes.

Loving – The people I work with…past and present.  What an amazing group of tremendously wonderful people.

Hating – The thought of mosquitoes coming…

Thinking – About all the things that need to be done…that endless list!

Feeling – Thankful.  For so much.  My family.  The blessings that come in strange and interesting disguises.

Hoping – That R goes to sleep before 9p.m. tonight.  This is for reals.  It’s been 9:30 or after every night this week that the talking/singing has finally stopped.  I’ve been asleep before him almost every night.  #truth.

Listening – To R sing…  Where does he get it and how does he have SO.MUCH.ENERGY?

Smelling – I picked up some lilies from Trader Joe’s over the weekend…they are my favorite flowers and they make our home smell so wonderfully sweet.

Celebrating – 25 years of the company I work for.  Today we shut down the office at 3:30, went to an off-site location, invited current and past employees and their families for some food, music and bounce house fun to celebrate this great milestone.  It was SO great.  Seeing people that I haven’t seen in years {other than via FB} was such a blessing.  The greatest thing was seeing all the KIDS.  I’ve been at the same company for 13 years this summer and there are a LOT of kids that have been born in that time period.  I am still in awe of all the blessings I’ve seen over the last 13 years.  Not just for our company {we’ve almost tripled the number of employees}, but also for our families.  Congratulations to our owner, Louie {Sweet Lou, Louis}…Prov. 16:9

I’m also celebrating Andrew’s accomplishments this semester – only one more exam to go on Monday and already I have a statistical genius! 😛

Ordering – We ordered shocks for Andrew’s truck the other day.  Does that count? 😉

Thanking – The Lord for His blessings.  All of them.  And I’m still mentally thanking David and Katie for keeping our kids two weekends ago so we could go to the vineyard.

Considering – We have an upcoming trip that I’m considering a few things for, but I don’t really know where to start.  This may be a blog post in the near future…but I’ll keep you on your toes until then.  Hint: the kids ARE going.

Starting – I would like to be starting on some renovations in our home…but that’s on hold right now, until the architect gets his plans put together.  Hint:  it involves busting through some bricks.

Finishing – This one is pretty great.  Six-ish weeks ago we started some major demo in our office building.  It’s almost done and it is beautiful.

I hope you’ve had an exciting April – ours has been pretty wonderful.

Happy Saturday people!!🙌🥳 Today is day 6 of Happy Saturday people!!🙌🥳
Today is day 6 of the @hopewriters #writingchallenge. I actually skipped yesterday because I felt very uninspired by all the things around me 🥴😩 and the prompt Fresh didnt conjure up anything exciting.
But. Today is a brand new day and we're off to a great start over here.🌞
Today's prompt is Rhythm...and being a lover of words, I looked it up to read all of the meanings. 📚
Rhythm always makes me think of music and dancing, so today's pic is of my feet.🤩 I'm no professional dancer but I LOVE to dance. We almost always have music playing in our house and twirling is a constant. Eliza Jane takes dance lessons and Reynolds is hoping to jump into a hip hop class at the same studio.🕺 Andrew and I took dance lessons for a little over a year, until the world shut down last year. So dancing is in our veins.
Along with dancing are repeated patterns and such is life. Patterns of waking and sleeping and the chores of the day. Patterns of food and seasons. Patterns of work and rest. Patterns of joy and sadness.
There are rhythms all around if we are conscious enough to see them.
What patterns do you see in your own world?
#hopewriterlife
Day 4 of the @hopewriters #writingchallenge and to Day 4 of the @hopewriters #writingchallenge and today's prompt is simply: Twenty One.
21. A simple enough number. I pondered writing to my 21 year-old self and quickly decided that wouldn't be a fun time to reminisce 🤪, so I scratched that idea.

I debated on sharing 21 ideas for supper but who am I to tackle THAT!? 👩‍🍳
Maybe 21 books that I want to read this year? 📚
What about 21 stores and shops where I like to find our home reno supplies? Nah.

I even considered 21 hopes for this brand new year we've just started but wasn't quite feeling it.

I landed on 21 adjectives to describe what I like about myself. Some of you may think, why on earth? Because it was hard 🥴😬. Because it forced me to really compliment myself when I am my own worst critic and often speak negativity over myself. It took me maybe 2 minutes to do this, and for that I am thankful!🙌

If you were to write 21 adjectives of what you like about yourself could you do it? And how long would it take you? What would you write?😉 Debating? Just do it 😘♥️

Shine: to give out a bright light or a quality of Shine: to give out a bright light or a quality of brightness.
Today is day 3 of the @hopewriters #writingchallenge and the topic is the word Shine.
When I think of shining, its in a way that brings happiness, joy, excitement, expectation even. Like the sun rising in the east - hence my photo from Sunday morning when Andrew and I were in Kiawah. The shining I think of doesn't bring dread or gloom. When the sun shines, especially after a rainy day, we are thrilled ♥️ and even relieved at times, that the gloom is over.

This is what I want of my life, my words and actions...I want to shine in a way, that people are excited to see/hear from me, as they are a bright star or the sun. Not dread my appearing 😩 (or God forbid applaud my leaving).

Lord, shine through me so that it's you they see. Not me, Lord. Not me.

Progress not Perfection. I've heard this over and Progress not Perfection.
I've heard this over and over and I'm finally putting it into practice this year 🙌
Day 2 of the @hopewriters challenge and we're talking about Progress. So of course I've given you a blurry photo of my @cultivatewhatmatters
#powersheetsplanner January tending list.😆 These are all the things I'm working on this month, this week and today...and some of my things are private 😘
I will share I'm making progress in: spending less, eating less sugar, exercising more consistently, spending more time with my family and Jesus.♥️

Progress is good...it's moving forward in (hopefully) the right direction.
How about you...what does progress look like in your life today?
#hopewriterlife
😄 This week I'm participating in the @hopewrite 😄 This week I'm participating in the @hopewriters #writingchallenge.
Today's prompt: New You...hence my "I'm at the hair salon" photo.😄 New You, New do 💇‍♀️
We have a motto in our house right now, and I'm sure you've either heard or said it yourself: New Year, New You.😉
We are saying it in our house for various and interesting reasons...from Emory wiping his own behind (he's 4), to Reynolds tying his shoes (hello, bunny ears) and Eliza Jane brushing her hair and pulling it out of her face (for crying out loud). And @theandrewrlucas wanting to run a ridiculous 650 miles this year...babe, you do you😘😜.
I can't say that I'm wanting a "new" version of myself this year. Or even that I'm wanting to start anything new, but I definitely want a better version of what I see, think, feel and hear. For me, I recognize it all starts with my time in the Word so this year's got a goal of rising early EVERY day to tune my heart and mind more into Him.♥️ Even on the days I want to sleep in, #firstthingsfirst.
How about you? New you or a better version?
#hopewriterlife
