Back To The Country: Part 1

June 13, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Life, Travel 2 Comments

The other night Andrew came into the kitchen, where I was standing, and showed me a picture of a child’s tractor.  “Really cool!” I said…”Where is that?”

He then told me about this place called Peach Festival Gardens, out in Gilbert, SC.  And showed me pictures of all kinds of neat antiques and vintage pieces that they have.  After looking through their Facebook page for 20 or so minutes, he announced, “I think we should go out there on Saturday.”

Great!

Well, guess where we went today?!

Gilbert.

The country.

After a run to Sam’s to get the essentials for the kiddos, we made a loop back home to deposit the cold stuff and then onto Gilbert we went.

Andrew and I laughed a little about this route because last year on the way to my family reunion to Hickory Knob State Park…we took a detour off the interstate {that we thought would be faster} and landed right in the middle of the Gilbert Peach Festival!  And it was in FULL swing!

Today the traffic wasn’t so bad.

As we pulled into the Peach Festival Gardens property…I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect.

The sign said to come on in…

There were some goats in the field next to us…and then we saw this:

Welcome

Ummmm.

So, did we just drive out here {45-ish minutes} for nothing?, I was wondering to myself.  But I didn’t dare say a word.  Don’t judge a book by it’s covers, or in this case, the property by the barrels…

We got the kids out of the car and the stroller loaded up and in we went…into the treasure trove.

A collection of really cool, random and unique things were found in tents and on display.  If it hadn’t been 90+ while we were out there, I think we would have stayed longer.

The Owner came back as we were finishing our tour and after talking with him about the business and how they do things {a sale! on Thursday nights via Facebook -> check out their page!}, we had decided on our purchases.

First, a croquet set that looked very similar if not exactly the same, to a set that my grandparents had in Albany, GA.  Memories came rushing back as I laid eyes on these beauties.

Sure, they need a little clean-up and we don’t have the hoops or wickets, but that’s ok…they’ll be perfect for the kids {or mommy and daddy} to play with, just as they are.

Next, I almost missed this little guy…an antique Angeles tricycle…that was hiding in the shade.

20150613_112433The Owner told us that he got it from the original owners, who still had their daughter’s toys from 50+ years ago….

We put Reynolds on it to see if he liked it…

SOLD.

We thanked the man and his assistant for their time and for telling us stories about different pieces.  Then we got directions for another little venue {stay tuned for Back To The Country: Part 2} and said goodbye.

This is my kind of Saturday.  Exploring new places, meeting new people and getting to see things that I don’t get to see every day.

I hope you’re also getting to do something fun today!
