Confessions…

March 1, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Being a Mom, Cooking, Life Leave a Comment

Happy Super Tuesday, people!  I hope for those of you that had the opportunity to vote today, that you did!!

Tonight I have a few confessions.  And these are in no particular order of anything.

Confession #1: I love garlic.  I love the smell.  I love the taste.  I love what it brings to a dish.

Last night, as I was feeling rather proud of myself for Andrew’s “Best Hotel Man Gift”, I was perusing the new cookbook I’d purchased for him from Williams-Sonoma….dreaming of delectable dishes with fine wines.

Then I pulled out one of my tried and true cookbooks from Southern Living and chose a shrimp recipe for tonight’s dinner.  Today I planned my lunch hour strategically, taking part of it to go for a 30 minute walk, and the other part to leave early to go to Publix {because I love Publix…especially when it’s just me.}.  Andrew volunteered to pick up the kids from daycare {yippeee!} so I got to go by myself and for my other mom-friends out there, y’all know how much fun that can be {for reals!}!!

Tonight I chopped and minced my way thru onion, garlic, tomatoes and parsley in order to come up with this mouthwatering dish.  And while I minced the garlic I was thinking about how much I love garlic, how fascinating it is to me {small but with a lot of punch} and how I’ve only really been eating it for the last 10 or so years.  Another one of those things that I’d missed out on for half my life by the time I discovered it…

Our supper was amazing…even if the kids didn’t eat it…Sauteed Shrimp and Pasta

Confession #2:  I’m not a fan of participating in R’s potty training.  He’s a big boy now, can’t he do this on his own yet?

And he’s a boy…and boys are weird from the get-go with their parts and I just can’t handle it, yo.  #alldone

Any other boy-moms out there feel me on this?  I asked Andrew about this, as in, why does this start so early?  He laughed and shook his head.  And then had a conversation with R.  I left the room.  I said it: hashtag, all done.

Confession #3:  I blew the February budget.  BLEW.IT.  Like, to smithereens.  Like, it never existed.  Holey Moley.  Andrew and I have not had our monthly round-up yet – but I’m sure after he reads this confession that we will.  bahaha.  I gotta hurry up and go to bed!!

I will remind him that today is MARCH 1st, 2016 and it’s a new month.  {Forget about the fact that dresses were BOGO at The Limited today…and I got a giftcard for my birthday…}  I will do better this month, I promise.

Confession #4:  This isn’t really a confession…it’s more of just a statement.  I read this verse this morning and felt/feel compelled to share: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6.

That’s it.  Everything that has breath.  Do you have breath?  Praise the Lord.

That’s all.

Have a lovely night {or morning}….tomorrow is Wellness Wednesday and I have a few things lined up for you {no videos!!}. 🙂

Happy New Year!

January 4, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Life Leave a Comment

Happy 2016 everyone!!  I hope you and your family rang in the new year with loads of fun!

I am thankful that we did not have a repeat of last year’s new year’s…

We were not wild and crazy, as we have discovered you cannot be wild and crazy with small children in your home.  Because they will get up at their normal time and you will have only had 3 hours of sleep!  I don’t do well as a walking zombie, either.

I take that back.  I was not wild and crazy.  Andrew and friends stayed up at our neighbor’s house til 1am playing Catch Phrase {best game ever!} and then when he did come back across the street, he was so wired that he stayed up til 2 watching TV….

I was in bed at 11pm.

Dana and I did get gussied up and went to a little party for an hour or soDana New year's

We took a family photo before I left 🙂Family New years

So here we are in 2016!!  What resolutions have you made?  Did you tell anyone about them?  Statistics show that only 46% of people who make resolutions are still keeping up with them, SIX months later.  And a mere 8% are able to keep them throughout the year.  If you tell someone, or all your friends on facebook, or some other social media outlet, and ask for accountability, your chances of staying healthy/fit/getting on that treadmill or eating only 2,500 calories a day, increases!  {→More fun facts and trivia about New Year’s can be found here ←}

I’m not a resolution-maker.  Maybe it’s because I know I won’t keep a resolution(s).  What’s the point, I ask?  I don’t like being a failure…

The only 2 things that I’m sticking to this year, are reading my She Reads Truth app, every morning {as long as it works…} and the budget.

It’s hard to believe that two years ago I wrote my first post about a budget.  I am not a fan of the b-u-d-g-e-t.

BUT, I do believe in the power of a budget, prayer {because I need to pray a lot about my attitude towards it…} and the freedom it can bring.

Andrew and I are back on the Mint train…and if you need help coming up with a budget, or something to help you keep track of your spending habits, Mint is super!

We want to do big things in 2016 and in order for that to happen, Momma needs to reign in some of her “free spending” habits.

I finished setting everything up Saturday night and we had our first “budget meeting” last night to discuss.  I can see this being a really dreaded meeting in the future for me…but pray that as long as I stay the course, I’ll get an A+ for my week’s work and Daddy won’t be disappointed.

Have I mentioned that I married a saver?  For those of you out there that are spenders married to savers…you understand where I am…

Anyway, here’s to you and your spending or saving, your healthy eating and workout habits, your Bible-reading plans and your staying on track for whatever it is that you want to obtain for 2016!  WE CAN DO IT!!

This is your year
