Old McCaskill Has A Farm

August 21, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Being a Mom, Life, Travel 1 Comment

I really cannot tell y’all how great my morning was today.  It was spectacular!  Fantastic-o!  Amazing.

I’ve shared with y’all in the past that Reynolds’ most favorite book {that has now been torn to pieces…} is ‘Big Red Barn’.

He loves talking about all the animals, “The sheep and the donkeys, the geese and the goats were all making funny noises down in their throats” – is how I read it…from memory…

So we took him to a real farm today.

My sweet friend, Heather Matthews {also my mentor} told me about this great place out in Rembert, SC.  Not far from where we used to live in Camden…Old McCaskill’s Farm.McCaskill Sign IIMcCaskill Sign

Heather had told me a few weeks ago that they host lunch every Friday and that I should check it out.

Well, I signed up for their weekly email to stay “in the know” and planned our lunch date with Andrew and the kids for this Friday.

When I got the weekly email this week I got REALLY excited.  They had a new addition to the farm.

The cutest little pony you ever did see!  I knew the kids, Reynolds especially, would love him!

He was terrified.

I think he was more scared of the big horse Jackson…who I adored…but later was told, is quite “ornery”.jackson jackson raisin

We met the blind goat, “Do-We” and all his little {pregnant!} friends.  Do-We is the one in the second picture down – the big tan one.

This one is affectionately called “Carol Burnett” because she is so loud!

We saw a brand new baby chick – freshly hatched over night!  I was over the MOON about this!

The lady that owns this farm, Kathy, was just wonderful.  She told Reynolds how to hold the little chick…and it all went great…R chicken VI

Even though we almost dropped the little guy!

Then we got to see a baby Guinea and hold a duckling!  {Thanks for taking the pics, Heather!!! <3}

Next we saw the bunny rabbits, more chickens and goats.  r bunny

Heather had come over to the farm to give us the tour so she grabbed a bowl full of scraps and took us over to the pen where the baby pigs were so we could feed them.  When they finally came running out…

Daddy made it just in time to finish the scraps so we said our good-byes to Heather, washed up at the hand washing station {the cutest!} and went in for a communal lunch.

Ol’ Do-We had made his way into the trough…poor little blind goat that he is…with his side-kick right next to him.

On the way out, we checked out the farm store where they sell fresh meats, canned goods and wool products

Some of the most beautiful wool blankets you’ve ever seen!

Reynolds talked about Jackson the horse and all the animals he got to see…all the way home this afternoon.  I think he was so excited about his adventure that he couldn’t even take a nap!!!…..

We had such a great time we will definitely go back on October 11th for their Annual Fall Farm Day!

A huge “Thank You” to Kathy and Heather for making our trip so memorable!

And YAY for weekends!  I hope you get to do something fun this weekend!

PS…last call for the $45 Starbucks giveaway – the contest ends tonight at 11:59pm EST!
