The Project Can Wait

March 9, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Being a Mom Leave a Comment

This is a “mommy moment” post.

HiMom

We have Eliza Jane’s baptism coming up this weekend so I’ve got a list of things that need to be done before Friday.  Before Wednesday would be amazing, mainly so I can just enjoy the weekend and the company that will be here to celebrate with us.   So last night I was working on a project.  I hadn’t gotten very far into it before Reynolds started crying.

We’d put both kids down at “normal” time – albeit a complete hour earlier than what had been normal.  Reynolds was a little harder to get down so I laid in the bed with him until almost 8pm, at which point I said “…you’ve got to go night night.  You’re going to be so tired tomorrow if you don’t.”  {Once again, trying to reason with a not-even-2-years-old-yet, kid…}  When I left him, he cried out…he almost lept off the end of the bed…

I thought, it won’t last long.

Wrong again, Mom.

This time, when he started crying, Andrew went up to check on him.  Several minutes went by while I worked on my project.  I heard some walking around and then Andrew came back down stairs to state, “He doesn’t want anything but his momma and some milk.”

Last night was probably one of the first nights I didn’t sigh.  Thinking, I really need to get this project done.  I have a lot on my plate right now.  When will I finish this?

Nope.  Instead, I just put down what I was working on, took a drink of my mimosa {yes, they’re for night time too!}, and went upstairs.  He was on the verge of wailing when I walked into his room.  And as if in a tone of complete relief, he said, “Momma.”  Followed closely with “Milk?”  {I mean, I came first, right?! :)}

I climbed into the bed {yet another reason I’m glad he’s no longer in a crib!}, Daddy brought up the milk, and he laid down next to me.

Next thing I knew, Andrew was standing over me and I was about ready to punch him in the face!!  {As my mom told me as a child, you better come in talking…don’t just hover over me.}

Over an hour had passed.  I’d fallen asleep with Reynolds’ feet propped up on me and in that moment, I debated staying right there.  He was fast asleep.

The projects, the laundry, the whatevers…they can all wait.  Mommy moments matter.
