Christmas Carols : O Holy Night

December 21, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Christmas Leave a Comment

I remember it like it was yesterday, when Celine Dion’s Christmas album came out in 1998.  I was 18 years old and I listened to her cd on repeat that Christmas season.

The most beautiful voice singing one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever written.  Two forces combined into one…and I couldn’t get enough of O Holy Night.

Here it is for your enjoyment: Celine Dion : O Holy Night.

O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name

Just 4 days to go until Christmas!  I hope as we near the celebration of our Savior’s birth that you await His coming!

Christmas Carols : Silent Night

December 20, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Christmas Leave a Comment

One of the greatest Christmas Carols, that points us straight to the Savior, is Silent Night.

The one often sung at the end of a Christmas Eve service, with candles lit throughout the sanctuary, it is one of the most memorable and moving moments of the service for me and often brings me to tears.

The version of this song that I am sharing tonight isn’t one that would typically be sung at a Christmas Eve service…but it is one of my favorites of Silent Night.  I hope you enjoy this rendition by Mercy Me.

Mercy Me : Silent Night

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Current Playlist

September 6, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Life Leave a Comment

Today’s Blogtember Challenge is: Create a Playlist. What you’re listening to now, what encourages you, holiday favorites, etc.

I’m not a playlist kind of gal.  Sometimes I wish I was because then I feel like my life would be better organized because my music would be organized.

But then, I kind of feel like that’s not really any fun.

I like to put my Spotify, Pandora, whatever, on random/shuffle so that I get a mix of jazz, theater, pop, Disney, Christmas…all rolled up into one wild and crazy song-fest.  Granted, if I’m not feeling the vibe for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight…” I skip…but I give every song a fighting chance.

I think I like it that way because everything else is so compartmentalized.  I eat one thing at a time on my plate, I sort my day out by tasks, etc.  So I kind of need my music to be just a big bowl of madness…much like Buddy the Elf’s bowl of spaghetti….Buddy Elf

So what’s on your playlist, if you have one?

I Throw My Hands Up!

June 22, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Faith, Life 2 Comments

Recently in church our pastor was talking about how God makes us all different.

Look around you.

Who looks like you?

Who acts like you?

Nearly no one.  We all have different body shapes, hair colors {and styles!}, we certainly dress differently…

We talk differently, some of us have accents…  We ALL have quirky mannerisms….

His point at one moment was to talk about how some people on Sunday morning, in worship, “feel the Spirit” and their hands go up.  Some others may look around like those people are crazy…and clinch their fists or fold their arms so that they are not tempted….

See, different.

I bet at some point at a concert or really great worship service, your hands have gone up – you cannot deny it.

And it feels really great to let go and be in that moment.

Here’s a song I’ve heard recently that I LOVE.  LOVE.  LOVE.  And I wanted to share with it you:

→Love & The Outcome →The God I know {get ready to RAISE.YOUR.HANDS!}←

“I can throw my hands up, worries down!  I remember when he showed me how to break up with my doubt…Once I was lost but now I’m found.”  Who can relate to THAT.  Every day, people.  EVERY.DAY.

So I heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago, while driving {alone}, and my hands may have gone up…

This is one of those songs, for me, to which I can totally relate and in the moment, I throw my hands up!I CAN

What’s the song for you that totally puts you in that moment of either total praise or abandon?

An Uncommon Lullaby

October 22, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Being a Mom 2 Comments

When Reynolds was born I realized the few lullabies I actually remembered…  I mean, after 30+ years of not singing them on a constant basis, who does?!

There was one night, I remember it pretty clearly, that I was rocking him in our den praying that he would just give.it.up. and go to sleep.

He was a wee baby then.  And  y’all know that some nights the little ones just need to be held and sung to…and eventually they just give up the fight.

Well, I was rocking him and trying desperately to find a lullaby in the back of my head to sing to him to get him to go to sleep.

The only song that came to my mind that night was a song I learned at camp one year:

I love you Lord

And I lift my voice

To worship You

Oh, my soul

Rejoice

Take joy, my King

In what You hear

May it be a sweet, sweet sound

In Your ear

a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

I would have given you a youtube video to listen to it, but golly, all the versions there are so bad…the music is from the 80’s, which I’m sure is when I learned this song…

But I sang it to him over and over and he finally went to sleep.  It’s the one song that I can always remember, even now, when I’m rocking Eliza Jane to sleep – even tonight.

She was a lunatic.  Screaming her head off, for what, I have no idea.  But I grabbed that little girl from her crib, pressed her head against my neck and started singing to her and she immediately relaxed.

Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s the sound of her momma’s voice…maybe it’s the words.  Maybe it’s all of it combined, but there is a peace that comes over both of our kids when I sing that song.  Even at 2 1/2, for Reynolds, he gets quiet and snuggles up to me.

Amy Grant sings about how “God loves a lullaby in a mother’s tears in the dead of night…better than a hallelujah sometimes”

My lullaby of choice isn’t just for my kids…it’s also my way of praising the Lord for all that He has given me.  In everything, we worship Him.

This is my uncommon lullaby.

Do you have a lullaby that you sing your kiddos?

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 25

September 25, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Life 3 Comments

Happy FRIDAY friends!!!

Today’s Blog-tember Challenge is to share with y’all three songs that I am “connecting with” right now.

This is really hard.  I love music.  I could list 50 songs so easily, but to choose just three…deep breath.

I think these would be my top 3…today.  🙂  The list might be different tomorrow.  But today.  Today, this is it!

  1. I Am by Crowder.
  2. Touch the Sky by Hillsong United.
  3. Can’t Feel My Face by The Weekend.

That’s it…I know…I feel like I should continue on, but the challenge was only 3 songs.  Maybe that was the real challenge…only list THREE songs when you really want to list 50!!

Oh, and don’t judge me for that last song.  It’s just a fun/hilarious/bizarre song….  I’m not really “connecting” with it…but it makes me smile/dance/sing/laugh, so there.  Just click on the link and dance!!

How about you?  What 3 songs are you connecting with today?

Happy Weekend, Friends!!

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 5

September 5, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Life 2 Comments

For the LOVE of MUSIC!!!!

Today’s challenge was to put your iTunes/music player on shuffle and list the first 10 songs that played.

I love music.  Of every tune, beat, rhythm, melody….except that hard angry sounding stuff…  I have been known to bust-a-move with a good song, turn it up really loud and belt it out.  And if you were truthful with yourself and the world, you would probably confess the same!!! HA!

Yesterday at work I played a list from Anthropologie that was so fantastic, a co-worker even took a little video of me “dancing” at my desk!

Music makes the world go ’round for sure, especially in my world!

I chose Spotify for this exercise…I don’t have iTunes {I know…} and I listen to just about everything.

“I wonder what songs will play when I click shuffle…” I wondered to myself.

Here are my 10 songs, in order of how they came up on my player.  And I was able to do this while the kids were napping and I was getting ready for a wedding! {Andrew went to Macy’s to buy a new pair of dancing shoes.  True story!}. Warning: it’s a very eclectic sort of mix…

  1. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (shrift remix) ♥ Andy Williams
  2. Girls Chase Boys ♥ Ingrid Michaelson
  3. Waiting Here for You ♥ Christy Nockels
  4. Shut Up and Dance ♥ Walk the Moon
  5. Silent Night ♥ David Crowder Band
  6. Invisible ♥ Plumb
  7. Suburban Space Invader ♥ The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
  8. Celebrate ♥ Pitbull
  9. Sugar ♥ Maroon 5
  10. Wanna Be a Baller ♥ Lil’ Troy

Blog-tember- Day 5

I warned you that it was eclectic! I feel like the songs that played were definitely a good representation of who I am in my music, but to be honest the last song surprised me a little!!  Surely it’s in there for good measure…

If you put your music on shuffle, what would be your first 10 songs to play?

Happy Saturday friends – turn on some music and dance!
