Once : The Musical

March 31, 2016 by Michelle Filed Under: Events, Life 2 Comments

Last night Andrew and I had the really great opportunity to see the musical Once.  It was fantastic.

First of all, we were on the third row, which meant before the show started and at intermission, we got to go on stage and have a drink {beer or wine} with the cast playing a “jam-session”.  It was so incredible, it was bizarre.Once 6

Dana and DJ went with us and while Dana was all giddy and “this is so great!”, I was standing there like, is this for real? Are we really on stage with these people as they’re doing their thing?  It was really fun.

So as we moved to our seats, the show slowly started.

I wasn’t prepared for how great it was going to be.  Sam, who plays the Guy, was beyond fantastic.  His voice was completely insane.  All of the music, all of it was beautiful and it drew you in. {There’s a link at the bottom of this post where you can hear a sample of the music!}Once 4Once 2

And somehow, at the end, I think I was the only one in tears.  It was so sweet, it was sad to me!  I’m not going to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it.  And for my friends in Columbia, or anywhere on the tour-route {Charlotte friends, they’re coming to you on Friday!!}, you must go see the show {there’s another show tonight in Columbia}.  It really is soo good.  My only warning is that the f-word gets dropped several times.  The first few were startling, but then like Jersey Boys, it’s just part of the vocab.

I can’t say it enough…I wanted the show to go on.  It was wonderful.  I hope you can go see it.

Caroline Rhea’s Comedy Show

September 30, 2015 by Michelle Filed Under: Being a Mom, Life Leave a Comment

I’m all about a fun night out with girlfriends, whether it’s a cocktail hour or a fun movie…it doesn’t happen very often so when the opportunity presents itself I’m all over it!  I heard on the radio a couple of days ago that Caroline Rhea is planning to be in Columbia THIS Friday…and if you’ve ever seen “Sabrina, The Teenage Witch”, “The Biggest Loser” or “The Caroline Rhea Show”, then you know who Caroline Rhea is…AND you know that she is hilarious!Caroline Rhea

She’s going to be here performing her stand up comedy show:  Everything from blind dating after 30 {I couldn’t think of anything more terrifying/intriguing! It was bad enough when I knew who the person was!}, her parents’ technological challenges {since my mom reads my blog:”no comment” :)} and catcalling on the streets of New York City…I don’t even know what to say to this other than her reactions must be beyond hysterical!  Can you imagine what her reply would be?!  I lol just trying to pretend to hear her shouting back at these silly people!!

So, here’s the deal, she will be here for ONE night only – THIS Friday, October 2nd at 7:30pm – at the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College {for more info: http://www.harbisontheatre.org/tickets-productions/caroline-rhea}.

Call your babysitter {which could be your husband! ha!}, grab a girlfriend, grab all of your girlfriends and GO!  Make a night of it if you can – grab some food, a glass of wine – there are tons of restaurants in Harbison {go early!} and enjoy a night out…but be safe!

The other deets: it’s only $25/person {preferred for older teens and adults!}: a steal for burning all those calories {10-15 minutes of laughing can burn up to 50 calories!!}.  You can purchase tickets at www.HarbisonTheatre.org or via phone at 803-407-5011, or in person at the Harbison Theatre Box Office, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The box office also will open two hours prior to this show!

I hope you can make it!
