Fireplace Update – Drab to Fab
Since we’re about to celebrate our 1 year anniversary in our new home, today I wanted to share with y’all a project I did last year, shortly after we moved into our home.
You can see from this picture that our den was dark…really dark and just looked a bit outdated. {This isn’t our furniture by the way, although I really wanted that avocado ottoman between the two green chairs…}
A few days before we moved in, we hired the husband of a friend to paint the paneling my favorite color by Sherwin Williams – SeaSalt. It made a huge difference in the room as far as bringing in some brightness to the space. But at night, sitting at the end of the couch next to the large brick wall I often felt like I was being sucked into the hole of despair. Something had to give. The brick wall had to be painted, that’s all there was to it.
So I set aside a weekend, knowing it was going to take longer than what I really thought…
I started by priming the brick….AND the grout (which was NOT easy, nor was it a friend of time. It took FOREVER!!!)
It legitimately took me about 8 hours to do all of this….I look happy, don’t I? 🙂 I think my hand had a cramp in it for about 3 days after…because this was serious work.
By the end of my Saturday we had this to view:
On Sunday, all I had left was to roll on the actual color – I wanted somewhat of a “rustic” look so it was not going to be perfect. In other words, I was not going to be so meticulous about getting every crack and crevice!
After a couple of hours, we had our final product and it was beautiful!
For any of you curious cats out there wondering what it looks like now, here she is! {Please ignore the plethora of toys…}
