About Me

Welcome! I’m so happy you’re here!

I started this blog in 2014, after watching ‘Julie & Julia’ one night. I sat on my bed and in passionate Julie fashion, looked at my husband and proclaimed, “I have thoughts TOO!”

That night we came up with the name for this blog: Camellias & Copper.

Camellias comes from my maternal grandfather. When I was a little girl running barefoot down the dirt roads around his house, there was a beautiful and somewhat mysterious garden close to his home. My brother and I would play hide and seek behind the massive bushes covered with enormous pink blooms. As a young adult I learned that those beloved bushes were Camellias, and made it my own personal mission to have at least one Camellia at any home I ever owned.

At the time I started this blog my husband and I had toyed with the idea of flipping houses. It was sort of a far-fetched dream at the time, and I loved the look of copper…both in its new and shiny state, as well as the aged blue and green beauty it would become when exposed to the elements.

By marrying the past and the future, garden and home, Camellias & Copper was born.

Which way is your preference?
I was involved in a car collision this afternoon. I was involved in a car collision this afternoon.
My car has a few cracks in the grill and front bumper, whereas her vehicle got smashed pretty good....
The wreck itself had me shaking but the aftermath had me both angry and sad.

The cause of our collision was due to an intoxicated male partner in the passenger seat, who apparently grabbed her steering wheel and punched her in the face...which caused her to slam on her breaks in the middle of the road.
Maybe this was the Lord's way of getting her some help.
I slammed into her bumper and as I focused in on her vehicle in front of me, I realized this man continued to hit her from his passenger seat.

I backed off her car, and she got out, apologizing to me - saying what he'd done to her. The dirtbag refused to get out of the vehicle. Even after the first police car arrived and we moved into a parking lot.
Two police cars later and with many questions being asked, he was put in handcuffs and put in the back of a police vehicle.

There were at least 2, if not 3 small children in the back seat...they were all okay - praise the Lord.

The woman said he'd been drinking since 6am this morning.

I just stood there. Unable to speak or even understand. All I could think about was those babies and this woman. I don't know their story. I don't know how they got to where they were today.
But as the officer released me, I walked over to this woman and I hugged her.

I reminded her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made by the God of the universe. He knows her by name. He knows her babies by name. And whatever she has to do to get out of this situation, she must do it. And call upon the name of the LORD. Because He will fight for her.

I left shaken, not just from the wreck but from what I'd witnessed.
God does not want us living in abuse-relationships. You were made for beauty and glory, and that's not in the face of someone who will harm you. If you are in a relationship like that, GET.OUT. whatever you have to do. Get out.

If you've read this far, please pray for Kelisha.❤️

Sunday afternoon Bible study ponderings... I don' Sunday afternoon Bible study ponderings...

I don't feel equipped, she said in her head
So she found something else to do instead
Afraid what they would say and how she would answer
Not equipped, again, the devil would whisper
But what if the power of Scripture is true
And the words that they hear don't come from you
What if the Spirit moves much like the wind
And what if your heart is what He wants you to lend
Would you open it fully to the plan of the Lord
Or would you fall victim to the prince of this world
He doesn't call those steady, mighty or proud
Just those who are willing to walk out of the crowd
Surrendered and bowed down before Your throne
Use me however, this life isn't my own
