Our Neighbor: Gladys Kravitz
Some of you will quickly recall that name and immediately give out a little chuckle. Others may need a brief refresher of who Gladys Kravitz was. Remember the show “Bewitched”?
It’s probably not even on Nick at Night anymore…I’m sure “Saved By the Bell” has taken over their time slot!
Well, the poor lady that lived across from Darrin and Samantha was named Gladys Kravitz.
There she was, peering thru her window just like she’s seen doing here:
She was the very “nosy neighbor” always privy to Samantha’s witchcraft. And would literally freak out and hysterically try to get her husband (Abner!!!) to wake from some afternoon nap or draw his nose away from the paper to witness the unimaginable. Only, whenever he actually made it to the window, whatever magic had stopped.
Well, not that we’re Samantha or anything, but I am telling you we have our very own Gladys Kravitz, and I’m pretty sure she wishes we were doing something spectacular while we sit at our patio table reading magazines and laughing over the day’s happenings. This lady (I’ve not met her as she seems a bit reclusive and does not speak) likes to look down on us while we’re sitting on our patio in the evenings. You can see her little head peering over the window sill of her upstairs room.

The other day we were sitting out there, just enjoying one another’s company (R was already down for the night) and I just happened to glance her way. And there she was again, staring at us. I wondered, should I wave? Should I say “Hi there!”? Awkward. Instead, I held up my magazine as if intrigued by some tiny print and quietly said to Andrew, “DON’T LOOK! Gladys is staring at us again.” Of course, he then tried ever so nonchalantly to look around and just happen to glance her way. I almost lost it…and so did he.
“Oh, my. She really is staring at us!!”
I hope she enjoys what she sees…there’s better entertainment on C-SPAN.
