Shhhh…Noone’s Supposed to Know

Botox is the hottest secret that noone is supposed to know about, right?

Either you’re getting it and you don’t want anyone to know or you have no idea that everyone else is getting it. And you’re asking yourself, why doesn’t my forehead look as smooth as hers? Hint: she’s getting BOTOX.

Why I took the leap

A couple of years ago one of my friends turned 40 and to celebrate her another friend and I took her to a spa. As I was getting my facial the esthetician commented on the deep line I had developed, running across my forehead, and I immediately became self conscious. You may recall a post I wrote last year about hair dye, lip filler and botox where I lameted about about these lines.

Last year, after much consideration about what to do about the crater in my forehead, I consulted my friend Amy about getting Botox. Amy is a Nurse Practicioner and the best Injector around – she’s not into making me look ‘frozen’. My friend Rochelle asked me last year before my first visit if she was going to be asking me why I looked so surprised every day. Amy assured me I wouldn’t look like that.😁

My own experience

My first injection last year left me with a few days of an awful headache – which Amy had told me about and suggested Tylenol to help it subside. Within just a couple of days I could see the difference in what didn’t happen when I raised my eyebrows. Keeping in mind as a mom, I must be able to raise my eyebrows…haha. Within just a week or two I could already see the deep line starting to disappear – this was amazing!

Where I get injected

When I first started Botox Amy took me slow so that the change was subtle. As of yesterday, these are all the areas where I get injected – where you see all the white dots:

The way Amy explained it to me, in order for my eyelids not to be heavy, she stacks where I get Botox – above my eyebrows and at my hairline. I also get injected at my “elevens” between my eyebrows, and just recently added my crow’s feet. In case you’re wondering, no my face doesn’t look frozen or surprised all the time. I still think my look is natural and the change remains subtle.

Why am I telling you my secrets?

Honestly, in case someone else is dealing with the self-consciousness of having a crater run across her forehead like I felt like I did… Friends told me it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was, but I was ready to have it disappear. We’re always our worst critic and I am certainly that, especially with my face.

If you’re debating

If you find yourself wondering if Botox or some other injectible is for you I would suggest asking your friends who they go to, because most likely they are going to someone, or they know someone else who is, wink-wink. Go for a consult and ask the Injector what she would advise for your trouble areas. My only advice is to keep it more natural looking, because you don’t want to end up like a Jennifer Coolidge meme…
