Following Jesus
What is it Like to Follow Jesus?
I sat in a room with women from all walks of life, who have deep relationships with God. Relationships that have been shaped over their lifetimes – some long, some shorter.
These deep and abiding relationships with the Lord have formed through hard times like loss, death, estrangement, substance issues, zig-zagging through life trying to find the thing that fulfills you and countless other scenarios that could easily deter one from choosing to cling to Him so closely.
And that was it; our common denominator in getting to where we were was learning the sufficiency of God’s grace and leaning into His abundant love.
Life is hard, and can be very harsh at times, and not always from our own personal decisions. There are rarely perfect days, and certainly no perfect people. The budget doesn’t balance, the diagnosis is unsure, and often, if it rains it pours. But one thing we know, God is sure.
He Will Never Leave You, Nor Forsake You
One thing I’ve learned, and this I know to be true, God will not leave you. Not even if you push Him away and run the farthest distance. He is always waiting for you. Always.
He will neither forsake you. Not like the ones in your past that dropped you like a hot potato or left you in the dust.
People may abandon you, even the ones that say they love you, but the One who formed you in your mother’s womb never will. He knows your inner most thoughts. He knows the number of hairs on your head.
He wants nothing more than to have a deep abiding relationship with you, His child.
I know this could be hard to believe, especially if you’re in a season where God feels distant or silent.
The promise isn’t that you’ll always feel His presence, but that He is present. Even when circumstances make you question, even when prayers seem unanswered, even when you feel utterly alone – He is there.
His faithfulness isn’t dependent on your feelings or your faith having a good day.
So, What’s it Like?
There’s nothing sweeter than following Jesus. It’s like:
Peace.
Assurance.
Rest.
Joy.
Hope.
Confidence.
Relief.
There is nothing better than following Him. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8 To know for yourself…come along on the journey. Start with a simple prayer, pick up a Bible, or just tell Him you’re curious about who He is. And if you don’t know where to start – message me. I’d love to help!
