When we purchased our home I knew right off a few things needed to change, mainly the bathrooms. We have a powder room downstairs with a peachy colored tile “surround” (not sure what it’s surrounding because there is no tub) and floor.
So this little room desperately needed a re-do, even if the tile had to stay, at least for a while.
I struggled with the wallpaper…it sort of had this vintage vibe to it, but when I started talking to Andrew about keeping it, I was immediately vetoed. ha. I love my husband and the fact that he does care about how things look in our home.
I gave up the wallpaper.
Together we’d decided that not only the wallpaper had to go, but also the light fixture, toilet, vanity (it kinda had a western, “Brady Bunch” theme…) and mirror. It needed to look fresh, clean and vibrant…or lively, radiant and lush.
First thing was first…what color. My friend at work, Aimée, who has a fabulous ability to pull together colors and patterns, suggested we go bright since it was such a small space. I wanted a green. A pretty, bold, bright green so she brought to me Pantone Emerald – color of the year 2013. It was gorgeous. But I was scared.
I ended up going with a very similar color and I’m sorry to say I can’t find the color’s name, but we purchased the paint at Lowe’s. We also found the light fixture, toilet (we purchased 3 for all 3 bathrooms) as well as the vanity at our local Lowe’s. The mirror came from SteinMart; I stopped by on a whim one afternoon and there it was and it was perfect! Exactly what I’d envisioned for the space.
The art is a needle-point that the previous homeowner did – the alphabet, using flowers. I loved everything about it and the colors in it were perfect to add to the room.
Here’s how it looks for now:
I like to think it’s a pretty nice improvement from what it was.
