Almost Time
It’s almost time for me to go back to work…Eliza Jane to daycare with her big brother and for us to get back to some normalcy.
But, what’s the new normal?
For anyone who’s had a life change, you know it takes time to find the new normal.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve fallen into a routine that only works while I’m home….and then only really works if Eliza Jane cooperates at night…so, what happens next week? Besides lots of prayer…
I’ve been a little nervous in anticipation. Again, it’s always crazier in my mind (by like, a million times!) and I know we’ll all be fine, but man, the anticipation is insane.
The main thing that I play over and over in my mind is getting the two kids out of the car and into daycare…juggling their bags, a baby in a car seat and a toddler that doesn’t exactly follow directions yet, and who can be quite opinionated. “Noooooo” he says and shakes his head almost to the point of it coming unhinged from his body. Seriously. Do you know what I’m talking about?! {He is totally going to run out into traffic, isn’t he?! ugh!!}
Of course, I’m making plans so that we don’t all lose our minds in the morning. Plans to be organized at night and get as much as possible packed up and prepared before I go to bed. And plans to be in bed no later than 9:30 (yeah, right) so that I can get a good night’s rest even if someone (ahem) wakes up at some awful hour of the night. And then plans to be up by 4:45am. My trial run of getting up at 5am this morning wasn’t quite what I’d hoped it would be, so I’ll have to go with 15 less minutes of sleep. Hopefully I won’t fall asleep at my desk the first day back and drool all over the place…if I do, hopefully someone will understand!
The big-picture plan is to have both Andrew and me, and both kids ready by 7am so that maybe (just maybe) we won’t be running around like chickens with our heads cut off and can actually enjoy a moment of happiness (and maybe breakfast??) together before we all go our separate ways.
My plans are great…but I have to remind myself that even though I have great plans, I have to be flexible!
I am so thankful for the support of many friends that I’ve talked to this week who are my cheerleaders and amazing encouragers. We’re all in this thing together…life…and so many have walked in these shoes before me. So while I’ve enjoyed my vacation these last 7 weeks…I am looking forward to being back at the grind next Monday. I hope to also get back to some consistent writing here…but hopefully y’all understand if it takes me another week or two. I have some fun projects to share with you all!
Happy weekend!
