Artwork {Reynolds’ Room}
If you recall, for Reynolds’ “big boy room”, we {or maybe just I} decided that he would have a nautical motif. Mainly with some artwork, pillows and a few other small things.
Over the weekend, while we were visiting Charleston, SC we went to the market (as all good tourists do) and happened upon Moku Hanga. A really cool artwork, where all the pieces were sea-related. As we looked at the colorful display, I was thinking in my head I really wanted a crab print for R’s room. And there on the ground it lay. I picked it up and looked at Andrew – we were on the same page. {Hooray!!} So we talked about where it might go in R’s room and decided we liked it enough to purchase it.
It was put in R’s soon-to-be new room tonight over by that awesome nautical lamp I created several weekends ago:
One element that I thought was really cool about this print was that the frame was made out of old barn wood and gave it a rustic feel.
A couple of weeks ago, Andrew’s mom went to a painting party and created her own work of art. When I saw the picture on Facebook I really didn’t think much about it, only wondering “what’s she going to do with all these paintings she’s doing?”
Well, you guessed it. We came home one day where she had been over to feed her grand-dog and this was left on our counter – with a sweet note to Reynolds, love Grandma. So of course it was going in his new room. I’d already figured out where it was going to go.
Check out the two frames…Crazy, right?! Amazing.
Tonight when I was headed upstairs to hang the two prints, I realized Andrew hadn’t seen them together so with a bit of a surprise, and “can you believe this?!” I showed him the two pieces together. I like it when things just come together with little to no effort, especially with my non-decorating skills.
On another small wall we have a great rope mirror that I found at Target. So for the most part, the wall decorating is done. Except for some shelving…and appropriately enough I’m looking for a boat shelf. We can’t be having just some plain, bland floating shelf (not knocking those that do!!) So Maybe something like one of these:This guy is at Hobby Lobby…and at $35 (that’s 1/2 off), it’s not a bad deal but I know I would paint it another color… In which case, I’m not completely sold on it.
I really like these wire nesting boat shelves at Wayfair but I don’t need two, just one and the smaller one would be perfect!
Then I found this guy at Amazon and at $25 he’s quite the steal… His color isn’t great (it doesn’t match at all!) so I’d have to paint it, which is totally fine.
The more I look at him, the more I like him. Folks, we may have found a winner! Stay tuned to the reveal of R’s big boy room to see how it all pulls together (but remember, I’m no decorator! – though I wish I was…)
