C&C at Home :: Before & After of Sims
“You may not believe your eyes.”
I often find myself saying that outloud to those who are able to see a project both before & after. Because our projects can range from just a couple of months to almost a year, depending on the scope of work, sometimes friends are blown away by the transformations they get to see once a project is finally completed. I hope that’s the case with this latest assignment.
What my husband Andrew encountered the first day he walked through the house was boxes upon boxes. The house overall was in really good condition, it just needed some TLC and a modern touch. As with every property, he looked for major repairs that needed to be made – hey there hole in the ceiling…, and ballparked a figure for updates that needed to be made before the property could be listed for sale.
This Before & After Post
I’m showing you a before photo followed by the after, with a bit of commentary to help you envision what we did and why. I hope you enjoy the finished product.
This is the main room as it was the day Andrew walked the house. It wasn’t in bad shape overall, you just couldn’t see the beauty…yet.
The main room, cleaned out, painted and freshly polished hardwoods. It really is amazing what a little paint can do…or in this case, a lot of paint! Everything that was cream – ceilings, trim, windows and doors – our crew painted white. The largest struggle was not only removing the old grass wallpaper but the skimming and patching that had to be completed before the walls were painted. This was truly a labor (of love) for our painters.
The front bedroom of the house, and just like the main room it wasn’t in bad shape.
The front bedroom, as with all the other rooms in the house, was painted SW Big Chill (my signature color) and the hardwoods were refinished and stained in Provincial. This combo is one of my favorites.
We knew we wanted three bedrooms in the end, but trying to determine how we could gain a third was the trick. We combined the two small rooms above to make a room that could be an office or nursery. Also, we kept these cute original doors in their place, just taking space from the previous hallway to create our closet. The new hallway to access the front bedroom will be revealed below.
This was the laundry room, with a pantry and a hot water heater, all in one space.
The hallway for the front bedroom was created by moving the hot water heater – to a tankless heater installed outside the home – and opening a doorway in the laundry room where the old hot water heater had been.
Each time I look at this photo of the hall bath, the layout still puzzles me. 🙂
The new shower/tub combo was swung around to the right side of the bathroom to make for a more sensible layout. And while you cannot see it here, we installed a 36″ oversized vanity in the room along with new tile flooring.
The primary bathroom that was quite small, standard and boring.
We moved the primary bathroom over into what was a sitting area, thus allowing us to encorporate all the luxuries one could ask for in a primary ensuite. The floor tile in this room is one of my favorites so far. And the shower is simply perfect.
The orginal bathroom we converted into the primary closet so it was a win-win!
This was the kitchen ceiling…
Not only did we repair the kitchen ceiling, we installed a completely new roof and ceiling, new flooring and custom cabinets to boot. We installed Venato White Quartz for the countertops and a lovely cloudy gray floor tile to pull all the colors together.

As With Most Renovations
This one took longer than expected. Ha. Such are the times with COVID restrictions. We faced several delays with inspections and laborers but thankfully we were able to get all our supplies when we needed them.
This property was one of our favorites, I think because it was an old home that hadn’t been loved well and we knew we could help. Our project manager, David Dreher and his subs gave us great outcomes with the requests we made and overall the home turned out completely gorgeous. I just pray it’s new owners find it soon. 🙂
Gorgeous transformation!
Thank you Pam! That means so much!
