First Day – We Made It!
For those of you who read my post last Friday, you know that today was my first day back at work.
We all survived!
But not after a little happening last night.
Andrew and I were in bed by 9:40pm (don’t be jealous!) after having put Reynolds to bed in his new big boy bed (major accomplishment of the night!). Eliza Jane was asleep herself so we thought we were in the clear.
Thought.
Eliza Jane has earned herself the nickname “Squeaker” because of all the sounds she makes…
Well, Squeaker started squeaking around 10. Andrew said to me, “next time she makes a sound, I’ll get up”. Approximately 2 entire seconds later, she was heard so I gently nudged him. 🙂 She proceeded to squeak for about two hours…letting it be known that she was in fact hungry and not quite ready for night night like we were. She was fed during this 2 hour span…we’re not that bad of parents!!
Around 1am she squeaked again and I said to Andrew, “did you give her those last two ounces?” He said, “what two ounces?” “The last two ounces that you were going to give her” I replied. He said, “I gave everybody two ounces!” and promptly fell back asleep. I thought, I don’t.know.what.just.happened. And neither does he. Seriously. Side note, Andrew is crazy in the middle of the night. He says things that he cannot recall the next day, even to save his own life. This morning, when I told him of this conversation we had in the middle of the night, I could barely speak I was laughing so hard. And no, he had no recollection whatsoever about this.
Just after Squeaker was making noises, Reynolds started crying. I waited a minute or two and then went to his room and soothed him back to sleep. I got back in bed and thought she’s asleep, he’s asleep…we’re good.
3am. Reynolds started crying again. I went into his room and got in the bed with him, and stayed there until my alarm went off at 4:45am. Andrew came in at 4 to check on me…he’d gotten up because Squeaker was hungry again (she might be petite, but she can eat!). When my alarm went off at 4:45 I eased out of the bed so not to wake up my little man, got to our room and there was Andrew snuggling with Eliza Jane. Ha. I said, “are you ok? Is she ok?” Everybody was ok, as long as they had a snuggle partner it seemed.
I started getting ready. My planning and preparation had us in great shape this morning. I loaded most of everything in the car by 6:15. Fed Eliza Jane at 6:30, and Reynolds was up and fed by 7. Andrew and I even had a few minutes to look at each other (let’s face it, some mornings you barely see the whites of your spouse’s eyes!). We were out the door by 7:20…it was amazing…I could barely believe it.
Nobody cried, nobody lost their head. We got to daycare (daddy followed), got the kids unpacked and said goodbye to their sweet faces.
I posted on Facebook last night that I am thankful for a job I thoroughly enjoy, amazing/wonderful people to work with and a daycare where my kids are loved immensely. At the end of today, I know that statement is still very true. The teachers and director at our daycare are amazing people and I know they love our kids, and maybe even us.
I was welcomed with beautiful flowers from my employees and lots of “we missed you” and “we’re so glad you’re back”…it’s good to be missed and loved by the people with which you work.
I am also thankful for my wonderful husband who encourages and cheers me on, even when he’s exhausted from a night of being up with his sweet daughter.
I hope your Monday was as wonderful as mine. Here’s to getting in bed by 9:40 tonight!
