Hallway Update
This post makes me laugh a little, only because it has taken so LONG to get this thing done! Two kids will do that to your life…just turn everything completely upside down. {Side note, I really wanted to use the word: cattywampus, here…but I didn’t.}
So anyway, back when Eliza Jane was born my parents came to stay with us. I can’t remember if I’ve told y’all this before or not, but my dad drives me crazy. This man cannot sit still. {Dad, if you’re reading, don’t get mad…just keep reading, I promise it gets better :)} He needs projects…things to keep him occupied, for a few hours….each day. A stroll down memory lane, if you will…only for a moment. Last year when Reynolds was born, he completely redid the railing on our front porch. Seriously. He and Andrew tore off the old railing and dad put it back together. With new wood, of course. I think he truly loved it.
Thankful to know this about my father, this year, when planning not only for childcare for our son for the day Eliza Jane was to be born, I was also planning projects for my father. Equally of importance, mind you.
I came up with two projects, that I felt would take plenty of his time and allow him to use his God-given craftsman and handyman skills. The first turned out to be a little more involved than I had thought, per my husband, so it’s still pending for some other time on that calendar that just keeps flipping… The second is what this post is all about and the second project I was able to complete this past weekend (hallelujah, praise the Lord!).
I’ll start with a few shots of our hallway at the very beginning…before we even bought our home:
Last fall, we decided to pull up the carpet – neither of us are fans of carpet so it had to go.
The next step was to start the project I had for my sweet daddy. I found this picture on the app Houzz (if you don’t have the app, get it!!!) sometime last year, that shows the hallway I really wanted ours to look like. And I kept thinking, we could SO do this, if only we had the time. Fast forward to this year: I think it was on Wednesday the week mom and dad were here (right after Eliza Jane was born), I took my phone over to the couch where my dad was sitting and (in my sweet daughter’s voice) said, “Hey, dad…I have a fun project for you, if you’re interested.” Of course he was interested. The poor man was bored to tears. Andrew was at work and he was stuck at home with mom, me and a newborn! Give that man a saw and a hammer! I showed him the picture and he said, “Yeah! I could do that!” So we talked about what we would need, measured the walls a couple of times and the next morning we went to Lowe’s and made our purchase. My dad had the skip in his step that I had been expecting to see…he was excited.
I think it cost about a hundred dollars for the wood and other items we needed, but you be the judge…does it look better now?
This one is pre-paint:
And now…post-paint:
Thanks Dad 🙂
