I Love Fresh Cut Flowers.
Who doesn’t? Flowers picked from my own flower beds are my absolute favorite to use in arrangements in my home. But this time of year, especially when it’s cold and not-so-pretty outdoors, I head to my local market for bouquet flowers or to The Bouqs Co. Usually I choose two to three bouquets of complimentary flowers. Sometimes they’re same color for a monochromatic look, or more frequently, I choose colors on opposite ends of the spectrum. I may also throw in some greenery for height and to break up the flowers.
Creating Flower Arrangements
When I’m creating my own fresh cut flower arrangements, first I choose all the vases I want to use and make sure they are all clean and filled with the right amount of water and flower food necessary to help the blooms peak and maintain their beauty. The second step for me, is laying all the flowers out so I can see the stock I have to choose from.
Then I start cutting, based on the height of the vases I’ve chosen – some are tall and some are short. I cut a stem and place it in a vase, alternating the vases so the flowers will vary and mix beautifully.
Using Flower Subscriptions for Arranging
Earlier this year I started a monthly flower bouquet subscription as an easy way to spread love and joy to my girl friends. I wanted to have an easy option to send flowers for occasions or surprises and The Bouqs Co. was the best option for me. Subscriptions also make arranging easy because you can either just snip the ends and plop the whole bouquet in one container, or do like I do and split them up into multiple vases.
A few weeks ago I scheduled my flowers to be delivered today {we’ve been out of town and I wanted them to be fresh for Christmas day}. Today I received my order – the Mariah Magic deluxe option, and with the number of stems in my bouquet I was able to create five smaller arrangements, four of which now adorn my tablesetting and the fifth is in Eliza Jane’s room because she also loves flowers.
Not only are they gorgeous, but in the bouquets I received there were Carnations in two shades of red, Hypericum Berries – which are so perfect for this time of year, and Photinia leaves that add height and separation.
I cannot wait for all the blooms to open over the next few days, because I know they will be even more beautiful!
No matter where you get your stems – a local store or a subscription service – make them your own by cutting various heights and mixing them up for diversity.
