KUH-lah – That’s “Color” For The Rest Of Us
KUH-lah. A toddler’s way of saying “color”.
In church on Sunday, after his daddy retrieved him from the nursery, Reynolds proudly pronounced {to the ENTIRE congregation} that he wanted to “KUH-lah!”. The “quiet bags” {ironic, I know} contain a coloring book and crayons and Reynolds knows this well. He put it together-> Church+quiet bag=KUH-lah.
Our kid loves to “KUH-lah!” A few weeks ago a friend came over and saw Reynolds’ little desk area where he likes to color.
Something must have caught her eye… What? A little scribble scrabble on the wall?
I guess he doesn’t really like the paint color I chose for the room? Maybe he thinks he ranks among the greats, like Picasso? Wonder if he drew on the walls… And better yet, did his mama scorn him for it?
My friend asked if I cared, or if I was upset. Nah. The kid is a kid once. Walls can be painted.
This is the side of the little white chest that sits behind his chair… I guess he thought it dull too.
Then there was last week when Andrew was doing something in the laundry room….
And saw this…
The scribble here is a bit hard to see, but I mean, I guess he got tired of scribbling and thought, “hey, I might come back to this and I don’t want to lose my crayon. Wonder where I could put it for safe keeping? Hmmm. A-HA! IN THE VENT! GENIUS!”
When Reynolds got up from his nap I took him to the laundry room and pointed it out to him. His face lit up and he was so excited! I said, “Heeey!!! Lookey what WE found!!!” He yelled, “KUH-LAHHHH!!!” And tried to yank the crayon out of it’s cozy spot. Nothing doing. It wouldn’t budge. He looked and me and bunched up that cute face and said, “UUUHHHHHHH!!!”
Maybe next time he’ll find a different spot for his crayon.
Meanwhile, maybe I’ve got an artist on my hands…
How about you? Do you let your kid(s) color on your walls? Mind you, I don’t encourage this…
