My “Vacation”
While I’m on my 6 weeks of vacation…Heeeey…wait a second. This is NOT vacation…who said this was vacation?!?!
Has anyone ever told you, ladies and working moms, while you’re on maternity leave, that you’re on vacation? I think there are some misinformed people in the world. {ahem… :-D}
I am not on vacation, I’ve not packed a bag to go anywhere glorious. I don’t have my passport in my wallet and I’m not checking the 10-day forecast to see what the weather will be like in some sunny, beachy locale.
Instead, I’m still being a wife, a homemaker and a mom…to two kids! One of which is BRAND NEW and requires a lot of attention and amazing cuddling, feedings every three hours, multiple diaper changes and middle-of-the-night care which can be anything from a feeding or two, diaper changes and soothings.
Don’t read that I’m complaining because I certainly am not. Eliza Jane is completely amazing. Everything that we’re doing is totally and completely worth it to have her here…and as I was telling a friend the other day, this is just a season. Before I know it, she will be sleeping thru the night, she will be learning to roll around and crawl. Then she’ll be walking and talking like her older brother. And somehow, I think I may miss some of this sweet time I currently am getting with her, even at 3am. Before long, I’ll be back at work and she’ll be at daycare with Reynolds. Someone else will be holding her close, soothing her cries and gazing into her beautiful, dark eyes.
No, this isn’t vacation, but there’s no where else I’d rather be right now. Not at the beach, no tropical destination…no, they don’t have anything on my little miracle. So I’ll take my 6 weeks of “vacation” and who knows, maybe I’ll work on some projects that have been pending for a while!
It’s a “precious” moment of time to love your little bundle of joy. This is just a twinkle of time.
