Packing Up the Little
Tonight I spent about an hour and a half going thru Reynolds’ “old” clothes. It’s amazing how quickly he’s grown over the last 14.5 months. From looking back at all the Newborn clothes that he never even got to wear {because he was enormous!!! when he was born!} to flashbacks and memories of “I remember the first time he wore this, it swallowed him up..” And even the “My First Fourth of July” outfit that I saw earlier today while looking back at last year’s 4th – he was so little then. I didn’t tear up {I’m really not that emotional of a person} but I did get a little sad and reverted back to my days of thinking, “I hate change”.
That only lasted for a moment because in that brief moment of wishing he was still that little, I thought, “…but if he were still that small, we wouldn’t be able to have all the fun we’re having now…”
So I continued with the packing and the sorting.
I have to admit, I was extremely overwhelmed with my task at first. This was one of those things on the bottom of my to-do list that I came up with last week…part of the #10weeksandcounting of Eliza Jane’s impending arrival.
But, just like the list, this elephant would be eaten by taking one small bite at a time. With some Crowder playing on Pandora I went to work.
Before I knew it I had one gi-normous pile of pajamas (good grief!), onesies/shirts (how many does one kid need?!) and a couple of smaller piles of randoms like pants, shorts, jackets and bathing suits. Not to mention the mound of teeny-tiny socks.
Tonight I packed up the out-grown and they will go into the attic because my baby has grown. He’s no longer a baby. I’ll be sad for an evening…but when that little blue eyed boy wakes up in the morning I’ll be so thankful for the little boy he’s becoming and that he can laugh at us and make us cackle so hard we cry.
To all the little clothes, you have served us well…hopefully we’ll get to see you again {but not too soon!}.
