Shaken, Not Stirred
Well, friends. Today is National Martini Day.
In honor of this fun day, I took some snippets {this has become my new favorite word!} from Wikipedia regarding the Martini:
- Usually made with Gin and Vermouth
- It has become one of the best-known mixed alcoholic beverages
- H.L. Mencken called the Martini “the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet.”
- The generally expected garnish is a green olive or twist of lemon peel
- The Roaring Twenties made the dry martini very popular
- James Bond likes his “shaken, not stirred.”
- The proper name for a shaken Martini is a Bradford
- Newer drinks include “-tini” such as the Appletini mostly due to the cocktail glass in which they are served
- The Vodka Martini started off as the “Kangaroo Cocktail”
I personally, am a sucker for a Lemon Drop Martini. It is my cocktail of choice, maybe due to the sour of the lemon or sweet of the sugar rim. Or both?
It, like the Appletini, is a “Martini” due to it’s glass and not by its recipe.
When I Googled how many types of Martinis there are…I found over 100 on DrinksMixer.com, complete with recipes. {← I gift them to you right there…click on the link!}
Knock yourselves out this Friday night, but don’t get too crazy! And please, don’t drink and drive!!!
