The Kindness of Friends
It is an absolute blessing not to have to prepare dinner. There, I said it.
I’m not a cook. It’s not that I don’t enjoy cooking, because I do…sort of. If I know what to prepare. I’m more of a figure-it-out-the-day-of kind of girl because I’m terrible at meal-planning. My problem is I don’t plan far enough in advance to take meat out of the freezer, or go to the store and buy the 10 items I need for meals for the week. I actually did meal-plan a couple of weeks earlier this year and I was quite proud of myself. But, it takes time and preparation, and right now (even on my “vacation”) those are two things I don’t have a lot of and so, I’m thankful not to have to prepare dinner. Honestly, I think I would be completely overwhelmed if I was having to prepare meals at this point.
Over the last few weeks we have had great friends, family and neighbors who have provided home-cooked meals, prepared meals from stores (Honey-Baked Ham and Whole Foods!!) and gift cards from restaurants. This is my statement to everyone…it matters, it means a lot, it’s a blessing and we are thankful!!
I’m telling myself this for the next time someone is on maternity or just under the weather: even the smallest gesture is a big deal. Pick up some brownies, or a fresh salad and a prepared pasta dish and just drop it off to the friend in “need”. It doesn’t have to be your labor of love to matter to the one receiving it…
