Hijacked…By My Own Mother

Yep.  You read that right.  My own mother has hijacked Christmas!  Bless her heart.

Today we were supposed to leave for Georgia.  The plan was to get up, get packed, run by a friend’s house to pick up some home-made (From Scratch) sticky buns and then hit the road.

I called my mom on Monday just to say hi and see if we needed to bring anything in particular for our 4-day stay.  Mom picked up the phone and I knew.  She had the funk.

When my mom is sick, she sounds terrible…and she sounded terrible on Monday.

She still had high hopes for our being able to come home so she said, “Call back tomorrow and let’s decide then.”

So I called back on Tuesday (after we’d gotten the kids out of our locked vehicle).  She sounded worse.  As if that was even possible.

She felt even worse than she sounded.  I felt terrible for her.  And I was also very sad that we weren’t going to be able to go home.  I kinda felt down like they did in “The Year Without a Santa Claus”.  My Santa is sick!

Our Christmas has been hijacked.  The plans we made are no longer happening.  And like all the other hijackings this year (click here, or here, or even here), there is nothing anyone can do about it.

So I’ll have my little pity party about not being able to go home for Christmas and how those 4 days would have made out for really good blogging material (wink, wink)….and enjoy the quiet of being home and sleeping in my own bed.

I will say that it’s really weird about not having any plans now for Christmas…in the last 10 minutes Andrew has told two different people “..yeah…we have no plans..”.  Good news is, Santa won’t be confused about where to find us tonight!
