A New Bed : New Bedding
Sometime last Fall Andrew and I were talking about the fact that our queen sized bed was going to get smaller and smaller as our kids got bigger and bigger.
No, they don’t sleep in the bed with us,….unless it’s a special occasion or someone is having a really bad night.
But we know the night will come when we’ll end up with everyone in our bed, knees in our noses and we’ll be clinging to an inch of blanket and the side of the bed for dear life. It is inevitable I feel.
So we had the conversation and took the plunge for a new king mattress set.
I wish y’all could have seen us trying to get that mammoth up our stair case. There have been few times in my life where I felt like a fullback playing for the Georgia Bulldogs, and this night was one of those nights. I just needed to make a way! Andrew was at the top of the mattress, in the stairwell, trying to push, pull, maneuver the mattress under the ceiling as I ran and pushed and shoved with all my might to get that thing clear of the ceiling. Pushing and shoving, we finally got that thing up the stairs, and without waking up any small children {which was a major feat!}.
The really funny thing was that I had purchased one set of king sheets from Home Goods and that was it. No other bedding in our house was going to fit this enormous mattress.
So with our queen sized comforter, blankets and such, we made it to Christmas. I asked for some bedding from mine and Andrew’s families for Christmas. We got a couple of sheet sets from my crew and a Target gift card from Andrew’s family {THANK YOU!}.
As we spent Christmas weekend with my parents I got on Pottery Barn and West Elm to see what they had that would fit the new king, and our styles.
I narrowed it down to two. I had a coupon I could use for either and I put the decision on Andrew.
We ended up going with the Camille duvet set from Pottery Barn. It was Andrew’s favorite of the two {I was a little surprised!} and for anyone wondering, the one at West Elm was the Frayed-Edge Quilt in white {W-E is currently having a 30% off bedding sale too!!}. So then I needed an electric blanket, Euro pillows {because I wanted Euro shams for the first time ever in my life!}, and a throw blanket {because I want our bed to look like something in a magazine I guess!}, and that’s where Target came into play.
Just so everyone knows…there are ELEVEN total pillows on our bed now. ELEVEN. Is this excessive? I feel like it is…they’re almost all white, so you can’t really see anything…but there are 11. {Cue Along Came Polly and the pillow-stabbing scene…}
I bought the super fun yellow-striped-on-one-side, You Are My favorite on-the-other-side pillow last year at Anthropologie. That’s the saying Andrew and I use the most to each other and our kids and well, I just had to have it when I saw it.
And just before anyone thinks that this is how our bed always looks…Know first that I make the bed every morning. Every morning. Unless it’s the weekend and I wash sheets on the weekend… But every morning I make the bed. I can’t get into the bed at night unless it’s made. I don’t know. I guess it’s my mom’s fault for always making us make our beds as kids…
But I love the way it looks made up…and it’s probably one of the few things that’s actually in order in our home! ha!
Anyway, so if you’re thinking it’s all perfect and what-not, this inevitably happens. Because between Andrew, our kids and me…there is ALWAYS laundry to do!!!
So, go make your bed if you have not. 🙂
Other items pictured {not the laundry} – the gold throw: Target; turquoise silkish pillows: World Market, last year; duvet: IKEA.
The first night in our bed with all the new bedding was amazing. I told Andrew that I finally felt like our bedroom was a retreat…the bed was that comfy, cushy and snuggly..I didn’t want to ever get out!
