Five Easy Updates to Your Bathroom
In the world of renovating homes, if we don’t have to tear out a bathroom, we dfinitely do not. Bathrooms, behind kitchens, are the most expensive rooms in the house to remodel. Plumbing, granite, marble – all the pretty things add up to big bucks. And most of the time we have a limited budget with which we’re working.
Good Bones
With that said, if your bathroom has good bones, nothing needs to be moved in the way of plumbing, the tile is in good shape and cabinets aren’t warped, leave it all. You can do so much in the way of small visual changes with high impact. And most of the suggestions below are low cost, especially in comparison to a full remodel.
Update the Door Knobs
This is quite possibly the smallest change you could make, but could update your space so quickly. Updating door knobs and hinges from brass to black matte or from chrome to brushed nickel goes a long way. Pick a coordinating knob or pull for the vanity cabinet hardware, also changing exposed hinges to match.
Change the Paint or Add Wallpaper
A coat of paint can brighten any room in an instant and get rid of stains and discoloration. Plus, a gallon of paint {or two} plus supplies can be very inexpensive. Wallpaper {and y’all know I love some wallpaper!} can be fun and a huge pop of color and whimsy to a drab or dark bathroom. Use wallpaper sparingly or for big impact!
Bring in New Lighting
Many homes still have ‘builder grade’ lighting, or a standard fixture from a home improvement store that noone really took time to consider or choose for your specific bathroom. Changing out your light fixture to something matching your style and the new look of your bathroom can have a major impact on your space. Switch Out the Faucets + Plumbing Fixtures
You may need to call in a professional here, but changing out your plumbing fixtures can usually be an easy update, done in less than a day. Much like lighting, many faucets and fixtures are builder grade and sometimes seriously lacking style. This is another opportunity to find a finish and variety that better suits the look you want for your space.
