How To Be A Lady
Ha! As if I’m the expert! No, that’s not what this post is about.
The very thought of this post makes me laugh because of the contents and fun I had putting it together.
I do consider myself to be a lady. {Keep your snickering to yourself}
This post is mainly about a book I have, entitled the very name of this blog post, “How To Be A Lady“.
Side note, if you Google “How to be a lady” you get all sorts of returns: Wikihow even provides pictures {although silly ones}. There’s a 24 Rules in 2014, even a 100 Tips(!), AND a Youtube video {on the resurgence of the lady – a must watch!}
Back to my book.
I received this book as a sort of gift many years ago. Maybe because someone observed that I needed it?!
I read it at that time of my life and recall laughing at many parts of it, thinking, this cannot be serious. For example: a lady never eats her lunch while she is behind the wheel of a car.
um.
Really?
Sad face. I must not be a lady. I remember thinking to myself.
But then, there was this: A lady does not use her car horn indiscriminately. On the other hand, she is not sheepish about giving an occasional honk to avert disaster. {or to help someone else get out of the way….emphasis mine :)}
This one I am sure the men-folk will appreciate: A lady makes it a point to know the names of the teams playing in the Super Bowl.
A lady does not gossip….
This is a favorite: A lady does not just order a salad at a restaurant when she is on a date if she really wants a hamburger. She realizes the men who would not want her because she has an appetite are not worth the trouble.
I’m pretty sure I never ordered a salad when Andrew and I were dating…
No sir, I ordered a steak and potatoes.
There’s even a little part about how to act “When You Meet the President” – of the United States… Or the Pope!
This book surely is not for the common lady. The every-day lady.
A lady knows when it is acceptable to drink through a straw.
Oh dear.
A lady does not wear clothes so revealing that they embarrass others. {or themselves?!}
Goodness gracious…why isn’t this common sense?!
And lastly: A lady knows when it is time to say good night.
So, good night friends, good night!
